Top 3 Scary & Crazy Lucid Dreaming Stories

I have not had any lucid dreaming experiences, but I am happy that I did not need to worry about the dangers of lucid dreaming or wonder how to wake up from a lucid dream gone bad. I searched for scary & crazy lucid dreaming stories, and I found these three to share.

Story #1 – Stuck in a cycle of lucid nightmares

While he has definitely mastered the skills of putting lucid dreaming to good use now, Justin was an anxious young kid, and that did not help him to face the darker sides of his subconscious head-on. His anxiety led him to see the world of lucid dreaming as a gateway to the spiritual realms after accidentally coming across the topic in a public library. He started off like many other new lucid dreamers, flying around the room and going anywhere with anyone. Things took a darker turn when his subconscious started to go to dark places and he could no longer stop the lucid dreams from turning into lucid nightmares. Lucid dreaming became dangerous as midway-through his dreams, he started seeing demons pursuing him and being condemned to hell for all eternity.

Even worse, he never fully woke up. Stuck in a state of sleep paralysis, someone would smash into his bedroom with a long knife, stabbing him over and over. He’d feel the pain of each stab and try to wake up, only to realize that he ‘woke up’ to another lucid nightmare, stuck in an endless cycle until the morning comes.

Story #2 – Never the same again

Jesigig’s story on Reddit back 4 years ago detailed how her boyfriend spiraled into madness and dissociation from reality after learning to lucid dream. After several lucid dreaming attempts, he started showing signs of dissociation when he asked her to marry him – just in case he was still dreaming and he wanted to do it right. Soon, he started to get worse, with words getting less and less pronounced and most of the time being unable to complete a single sentence. It got to the point where he was only able to say a single word and leave it at that, confused at what he was trying to say.

Understandably, she was worried out of her mind and contacted his family members before bringing him to the hospital. When he was brought there, he acted over-stimulated and paranoid and did not appear to have coherent thoughts. He had to be hospitalized, during the process of which he struggled hard. The weird part? There were no abnormalities in the CAT scan and he did not ingest any drugs. Is lucid dreaming bad? The original writer of this story would definitely give a big Y.E.S.

Story #3 – Old Hag Syndrome

A famous article from the Creepypasta Wiki talked about sleep paralysis from lucid dreaming too. Sleep paralysis can be scary, because like the person in the story, you realize upon waking up from one of your dreams that you have woken up, but your body hasn’t. The auditory & visual hallucinations seemed so real that you can understandably confuse it with reality. You would feel the pressure on your chest making you breathless. You would know that it’s all the chemicals in your brain, but the sensations are so real that it is hard to ignore them. You won’t be able to avert your eyes; they’re fixated at a single spot. You might see figures taking form around you and hear evil whispers & angry hissing, and you were only narrowly saved by the headlights of a car driving by.

Happy that you woke up, you’d look next to you to tell your spouse about it, only to find yourself paralyzed once more – this time not by sleep paralysis. Next to you, you see your spouse who did not survive the Old Hag Syndrome, stuck in an eternal look of fear on her face & a jagged wound in her throat.

If you are looking for immediate ways to start lucid dreaming on this very night, keep in mind that this can be dangerous if your mind is ill-equipped to deal with your subconscious properly. Proceed your practice & training on lucid dreaming only if you know the risks well. From the above stories, it is obvious that one needs a strong mind to avoid lucid dreams from turning into ludic nightmares as it can be dangerous for the person involved, possibly causing mental scarring.
